The other day while we were browsing the new campaigns on Kickstarter, we came across a bit of a unique project. We get the sentiment behind it – it’s commendable – we’re just not so sure about the delivery.
Bullyproof is a video game by Troy Wheat, Senior that will ‘help pre-teens and teenagers see first-hand the dangers and side-effects that drugs, alcohol and bullies have on the person doing these things as well as on family and friends’. It’s a totally admirable idea and it’s nice to see a socially-conscious title being promoted on Kickstarter.
But as for the delivery, we’re a bit confused. The game has several different names – it’s referred to as Bullyproof, Bully Proof and Bulliproof throughout the material – and features quite an evil-looking protagonist. In addition, the highest pledge tier of $25 mentions something called the ‘Bad Gas Monkey’ and the developer does some pretty impressive animal impressions during the promotional video (take a look below). Finally, at one point kids are posed the question: ‘Do parents punish you just to be mean?’; we all know how they’re going to answer that one…
Bullyproof’s (or Bully Proof, or Bulliproof) Kickstarter project has a funding deadline of 07 August 2013 but with less than one percent of its $30,000 target received so far, it’s not looking likely that it’ll succeed. But we doubt this will be the last we hear from Troy Wheat.
